History

The Kren Bat Company, founded in 1913 and which sold an estimated five million bats from 1913 until 1953.

Founded by Joseph Kren, an Austrian immigrant with a pension for the wood trade and an appreciation for the game of baseball, the company has provided bats to many of the best to play the game and a Baseball Hall of Fame roster that includes Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Shoeless Joe Jackson, Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Mel Ott and Honus Wagner.

The company’s original turning equipment is in the Hall of Fame, along with several bats that were used by stars of that day.

  • Model bat with a “Joseph G. Kren / Kren's Special Model / 585M” trademark.

  • Case displaying wood working tools used by Joseph Kren to make hand-turned baseball bats for professional use.

  • Johnny Pasek model bat produced by the Kren Bat Company of Syracuse, 1933-1934.

  • Bat used by Henry Bosse, a minor league player with the Brockton, MA club of the New England League, circa 1928-1930.

  • Bat used by George Kelly to hit three home runs, a double and a single at Wrigley Field on 9/17/23, setting a total bases record of 15.

  • Miniature bat given to the baseball coach of North High School in Syracuse, NY in 1934 in lieu of payment for three undefeated seasons.

  • John Vander Meer model miniature baseball bat distributed to fans by the Cincinnati Reds in the 1940s.
